I am a sneakerhead episode 154 - @Rubens_lp10

My name is Rubén, I am 37 years old. I was born in a small neighborhood in Madrid, called Moratalaz, and here I continue to live with my partner and my two daughters. The first shoes that I owned and that impressed me were Air Max Skyline. Back in 1999, the first BWs began to be seen in the neighborhood, and the 97 ... And all the kids who didn't work wanted to wear the shoes of those who could afford them. The BWs were definitely the ones that introduced me to this world.

Do you have any favorite brands?

Right now on my feet, I almost always wear Air Max 1. And clothes Polo Ralph Lauren, The North Face ... a little of everything, I may wear something very expensive or something very cheap, if I like it I wear it.

What are your top three sneakers you own at the moment?

1: Air Max 1 Viotech, a sneaker I had been looking for a long time at a reasonable price and got it last year. The color combination seems perfect to me, and the materials go well.

2: Air Max 1 Bespoke: Zebra, A very special shoe for me, since it is the first job of a new project that I have started with a colleague who is a shoemaker.

3: Air Max 1 Snowflake: As I said before, if I like it, I don't care how much value the product has. The Snowflake is not a highly valued shoe like others, but for me, it is the best color combination in Air Max 1 so far, and I was able to get it from DS and at a sale price.

This year I have stopped the crazy rhythm of shopping that I was carrying, and I am looking for more concrete things. I am more and more focused on creating my own pairs.

I have the Air Max 1 Cherrywood in my sights, but I'm not going to pay the atrocities they ask for right now. As they say in the world, patience is the key ... Maybe I'll be lucky and find a pair in bad condition at a good price and can restore it.

What are your expectations of the sneaker industry for the remainder of 2020?

I think the trend will remain the same. Nike is increasingly far from Adidas, Reebok, New Balance, etc ... I think they are saturating some collaborations like with Travis, and they could look for something more quality, Concepts for example. But hey in the end it is supply and demand, companies do what they know they are going to sell. For example, Adidas had a good pull with Kanye's Yeezy, they saturated and now you can find most of their pairs at a sale price. The good thing about Nike is that it shoots in many different directions ... and almost always hits the right key ... (it won't be for materials) hahahaha

If you could change one thing in the sneaker community, what would it be and why?

Well, I think like almost all of us who have this hobby, way of life. The resales, the back doors. All those who make someone who really enjoys a pair of sneakers, can't.

In the community, 90% of the people I have met are good people, legal people. There is a small percentage that should put the ego aside, and try to be nice to everyone equally. It makes me very funny that there are some people who speak or not or others depending on the number of followers they have. For example, in my work, I speak the same to my boss as I do to the cleaning lady, and I have exactly the same respect for them; I believe that when you are part of a group, of a community, you have to be kind, generous and polite to everyone equally. Many thanks to Epsilon Magazine for your work and for the opportunity. Take care.
