I am a sneakerhead episode 164 - @busterhede
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is Buster Hede, I’m 36 years old and I live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I currently live at Nørrebro with my fiancé and our little son but we’ve just bought a new apartment at Carlsberg Byen, Vesterbro. We love our life here close to everything, Copenhagen is a fantastic place.
How did you get into sneakers?
My passion for sneakers started in parallel with my passion for skateboarding. I was around 12 years old when I really began to buy sneakers for myself. I was pretty much a tech skater and for that reason, I was always pretty picky with the sneakers I wore for skating. One of my favorite pairs from back then was the Chad Muska promodel from Circa “CM703.
I honestly can’t remember my first pair of sneakers but I do remember the first pair I bought when my newer/today’s collection really got started. It was a pair of Women’s Air Max 90’s in white and purple.
Do you have any favorite brands?
My favorite brands have to be “Nike” and “New Balance”. Nike speaks for itself, it’s the leading sneaker brand in the market and is always one step ahead. New Balance is delivering the quality though. The “Made In” quality from New Balance is simply just second to none. I also dig other classics like the “Puma Suede”, “Converse Chuck Taylor” and “Adidas Superstar”.
What are your top three sneakers you own at the moment?
I own some pretty great and historic pairs if I should say it myself, especially Air Max 1’s and 180’s. I’m gonna do something different and answer you my top three underrated pairs that I’m gonna rock a lot this summer:
1. Air Huarache OG “Sport Turquoise”
2. Air Skylon 2 “Clear Emerald”
3. Air Flow “Cherry”
What do you plan on buying next?
It would be great with some more OG Huarache colourways to release. I just bought the “Escape” retro pair which is all over fantastic. I’ve seen a couple of the upcoming Huarache pairs that will drop later this year, they all look good. I also hope for some Air Max 180 retros to release.
If you could change one thing in the sneaker community, what would it be and why?
I would love to see that collectors/consumers didn’t put a value on every single pair every single day. It’s like everybody is always comparing their pairs with its price and that alone defines if it’s a great cop or not. What about just buying the pairs you like. Really. Think about it. Why is it more important than other people is digging the shoes you're wearing instead of just enjoying them yourself? I don’t get it. And why is product value typical the most important thing?
I also see people that won’t buy the pairs they have been waiting for if it’s not sold out immediately, cause then it scares them that the pair isn’t “a thing”. Again, why is it more important than other people like the pairs more than you like them yourself? Why is it important if it sits or sells as long as you want it? You should be happy if it sits, so you can buy two or more pairs of it for retail price.
People need to stop comparing themselves and their personal values to others. Be yourself. And stop putting a price on everything.
Thanks.
