I am a sneakerhead episode 169 - @arternative82
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
I'm a 38-year-old Marketing Manager from Bielefeld in Germany. Graphic Designer, photographer, football fan, concert and music lover, film fan, and sneaker enthusiast. I have a heart for smart-casual fashion. Prefers British brands such as Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, Lyle & Scott, or Farah. For several years now, I've been combining this fashion with sneakers from Asics, New Balance, and Diadora. Since I had a pair of Asics Gel Lyte Vs on my feet for the first time, Asics has become my favorite sneaker brand. After I started collecting a few Gel Lyte V models, I eventually came across the Gel Lyte III models, which due to their diversity, high-quality materials, and good workmanship, perfectly match my casual outfits and give them an individual touch. Highlights are, of course, the collaborations, which stand out again with many fine details. My personal highlight here is the Afew Red Koi, which I recently added to my collection. But I also really like the Alvin Purple X Sneaker Freaker or the Moonsoon Patrol (1.0) x Limited Edt., Which in my opinion are completely underrated. In addition, there are many other Asics sneakers in my shoe rack, which are used for everyday life, sports, or even gardening. In addition to my preferred brand Asics, some New Balance 1500s have also appeared on my shoe shelf over the years, which I also really appreciate because of their high quality and classic colorways. I just fell in love with the new M1500SDS, which are really fantastic for a GR. Another highlight in my collection is the purple Diadora x Afew Dr. Wefa, which is unique in the entire sneaker market to this day.
We gotta talk about your photo setup, what kind of equipment do you use?
I have a lot of professional photo equipment. Spent around 20 on it within the last 10 years. My cameras: Nikon D800, Nikon D810 with many professional objectives and equipment, Fuji X100F. And of course: Some studio equipment.
I see. You mentioned that you started collecting Gel Lyte V, but do you remember what your first pair of sneakers were and why you bought them?
That's a good question ... For as long as I can remember, I've actually always worn sneakers. As a teenager a lot of Puma or Adidas, because those were the popular brands. And earlier also Nike, but I never got warm with the brand. But I really don't remember which my first pair was ... sorry.
All good! You mentioned the Afew store Kois as one of the pairs that stand out in your collection, is that your favorite?
Yes! This and the Monsoon Patrol x Ltd. Edition and the NB M1500TBT and the Diadora Violett Afew Dr. Wefa.
As for the TBT, I love the colorway. It's a perfect match for nearly every outfit. The colors and the materials are very classic and of high quality. At first glance, it doesn't look like a sneaker.
For the rest, I love the colorways and - of course - the details on every shoe. Especially the Koi has got a lot of fine details, which make it something special.
Do you have any idea of what your next purchase will be?
I’m still waiting for the new Afex X Asics collab, which was announced for the 30th anniversary last year. A few of the GL III releases for the 25th anniversary are still missing in my collection. I could imagine buying one or the other if I find a suitable offer. Furthermore, I always keep an eye on the current GR's of the Asics Gel Lyte III and Gel Lyte V as well as the New Balance 1500. If something appears interesting that fits into my collection, I will certainly take it.
Let's hope they announce something very soon. Is there something else you would like to add?
I think Asics disappointed a bit at the 30th GLIII anniversary. From my point of view, there were only a few couples that were really exciting. I, therefore, hope that they will build on the detailed quality of the 25-year editions again. In general, I would like to see that collectors have a better realistic chance of being able to buy the collabos. I'm not a friend of those Instagram raffles or people who stock up on greed couples just for resale.
