First of all, could you please introduce yourself?
Hi, my name is Lukas 34 years old I live in Germany near Dusseldorf. I have been fascinated by sneakers since 2001. My first sneaker was from Etnies. From 2007 to 2015 I had a break with collecting during my duty in the German army. I get my passion back ‘cause of a friend I met at work in the hospital. I started with my first campouts at Afew and get deeper into the scene. It was the start of my passion and addiction again.
You posted an image at the beginning of January where you highlighted your appreciation for the sneaker community, is there anything else you would like to appreciate?
Yes my job, I am working as a male nurse on an intensive care unit. And I want to honor all people who are working in the healthcare system for their work. Not only during Covid. Since they decided to go this way. Collecting sneakers and having conservations with friends about sneakers is a great balance for what I am doing at work.
You seem to have a great relation to the Netherlands and in particular Amsterdam, why is that?
I’ve raised near the Dutch border, so I’ve spent a lot of time in the Netherlands. When I was 17 I had my first own trip with friends to Amsterdam, it was awesome. The Netherlands is also good to travel to the sea and have a great break on the beach. For me the perfect country for a short trip. I try to visit Amsterdam once a year I love the city and the culture. Especially the sneaker cultures. I’ve met a lot of nice people during campouts in the NL, we also started a great group with AirMax collectors of the whole world. For me, as an Air Max 1 collector are the Dutch guys have the best connection to the Air Max scene. The best camp out for me was the First Patta camp out last year. Patta brought back the passion and love for sneakers back to this game.
Could you please elaborate on why you changed your focus from adidas to Nike?
I started to collect the Adidas Goodyear back then. I was focused on this model and had around about 50 Colorways. I had also some Airmax 90‘s and Jordan’s too but they were not so interesting for me. After my break, I didn’t have this focus on one brand. I collected Asics and Yeezys and especially the afew collabs. Just to the moment I bought my first AM1, put them on my feet, and fell in love. I started to read about the history of AM1 and Tinker. And that was the moment I found my shoe. I bought more and more AM1 and started to collect them, unconsciously I stopped wearing other brands. During the time I collected more and more AM1’s, while my Adidas collection became smaller. Compared to Nike, apart from the yeezys, they haven't released anything good in the last few years. But that's just my personal opinion.
In short, why is Air Max 1 your favourite model?
It’s just the perfect silhouette for me. Shape (mostly), mudguard and CW‘s are on point.
If you were to cop something from others than Nike, what would it be and why?
Good question. I think it would be Asics again I like the Gel Lyte III, and they have really good CW‘s and collaborations on them.
I hope the sneaker game will not be so profit-oriented in the future. That there will be more campouts and that the community will grow together again.
