Photographer Spotlight - Episode 25 @thevisuallife_

My name is Oscar Lindsey, I am 20 years old and am currently studying Industrial Design and Technology at Brunel University. At the beginning of this year I realised how much I love Photography and have been pursuing this passion ever since, learning as much as possible in order to improve my skillset. I love to travel whenever I get the opportunity and I mainly shoot in and around London.

What equipment do you use for your photos?

I currently shoot with a Nikon D7100, accompanied by an 18-105mm, 35mm prime lens and a 10-20mm wide angle lens. I also shoot with a DJI Mavic Pro drone, which I love to use in order to push the boundaries by creating new perspectives, although I have had a few close calls…When it comes to editing I utilise the power of Adobe Lightroom and also Photoshop for if I am working on a cool edit. Regardless, for anyone wanting to start out with photography, you don’t need all of this equipment to begin with – all you need is your phone and the willingness to go out and shoot.

How and where do you find inspiration for your work?

Obviously it would be easy to sit here and list a load of other Photographers and Instagrammers who’s work I like and am inspired by, but it is also important to not get distracted by what other people are doing. It’s easier said than done, but what I’ve found is that it is much more beneficial if you just grab your camera and go out and create, as there are always unique perspectives to be found and you aren’t going to find any by following what everyone else is doing. This is a philosophy which I am trying to incorporate more into my work.

Do you have any favourite location to take pictures at?

This is a difficult one to answer because there are many stunning places around the world, but for sure I would love to visit Japan – hopefully one day! At the moment, I love shooting in London as there is nowhere like it for me and I find so much inspiration within this great city. I love to find vantage points high above the streets and anywhere with a nice view really. I visited Barcelona a few months ago and brought my drone with me so that I could capture the city from high above and I was amazed by how incredible the place looked from above – it’s like nothing I’ve seen before!

What is your all-time favourite picture?

The picture which I am most proud of has to be this one which I took over Tower Bridge. It was a sunrise I did when I was first starting out - I had to wake up at 4am and take an hour long tube, and had to get back for Uni the same morning but it was all worth it. For me there is nothing more satisfying than being able to capture a shot you envision.
