Up There x New Balance 1906r
1st of all, congrats @smallgainz & Up There on this project. If you don't know who Matt is, he does a lot of the editorials & writeups over there. He & the crew put their spin on this design after following up w/ their successful 2002r designs & I'm really grateful to be a part of this milestone. Congrats y'all ♥️
Materials: This sneaker is done in varied shades of grey & silver (Lowkey reminds me of the silver surfer). The mesh used is a grey big hole mesh with 3m hidden underneath the perforations. On the paneling, they went w/ a matte silver finish with cream & grey inlays t/o it giving the panels some contrast. My favorite parts of this sneaker are the pops of green in the most subtle places giving it a IYKYK feel. The green hits are on the insole, lace tips, & on the back cage, boxed around the NB logo. This Green pays homage to some of their recent rebranding & also matches the carpet in their shop. Lastly, the outsole... they finished off this design with an entirely transparent sole. Overall, I feel like they did a pretty nice job on this design & it plays well into the new minimalist rebrand.
Comfort/Sizing: the 1906r is one of the few models that I've been able to wear after my back injury. The comfort is pretty squishy since it uses the same outsole as the 2002r, therefore, the comfort will be similar. My only gripe with the 1906r is that the upper feels slightly unstable/loose. In terms of sizing, I'd go with your tts in these.
Overall Opinion: I think given their rebranding & adding in a minimalist persona, they were able to make what looks like a simple cw & added some unique touches & executed it pretty nicely. What I thought was nice about this design is that there's no branding. They added green hits in subtle places & 3m underneath the mesh, which imo was pretty clever & really makes this sneaker feel like an easter egg of hidden details paying tribute to the crew over there. Overall, given the model & the colorway I feel like this will be an obvious choice if you're looking for a new everyday pair that goes with anything. Click here for more information on the release
