I am a sneakerhead episode 149 - @Sim0nsteenberg
My name is Simon Steenberg, I am 32 years old and I live in a little town called Ry, near Skanderborg (in Denmark).
How did you get into sneakers? Do you remember what your first pair was?
It actually started back in primary school when hip-hop culture and skating was huge. My first pair that I had been hunting for weeks was Osiris. For several years I only had 2-3 pairs in total, but my interest was always there.
I started to collect around 2013-2014, and around 2016 it got bigger. I've never had a huge collection, because I only want to own sneakers that I actually wear. The ones I do not wear gets sold. Right now my collection is 50-60 pairs, and I wear every single one :)
My favourite brand, If I must pick one, it must be Nike. One of my favorite silhouettes of all time is the Air Max 1. Tinker Hatfield made a future classic here, and the number of good colorway are endless.
Nike is good at being firstmovers, and they always know what move to make. Take the Air Max 90 as an example. Anniversary this year, and Nike made the "OG" version. Why? Because they know that there are a lot of OG sneakerheads in the game who wants the OG rather than the new.
My current top three is: Atmos x Nike Air Max 1 "Animal Pack 2.0" — Nike Air Max 98 "Gundam" — New Balance 990v5. That list could very well be different if you ask me in a week though ;)
What do you plan on buying next?
I am always on the lookout for Atmos x Nike Air Max 1 "Elephant". If not this one, I hope some of the new Asics Gel Lyte III Anniversary colorways drop in Europe
What are your expectations of the sneaker industry for the remainder of 2020?
Not many actually. But I always hope that Nike would retro some old Air Max gems.
If you could change one thing in the sneaker community, what would it be and why?
Resellers. I know that some people have to earn some money, and I have respect for the bigger resell shops. But the average reseller who signs up with 50 emails to cop a pair for profit, he needs to be gone I mean, we are many who actually wants the shoe — so go make some money elsewhere. An example could be the Air Max 1 "City Pack" with London and Amsterdam. Some Instagram prediction profiles told that stock was somehow limited, and demand was high = too many "non Air Max enthusiasts" got 'em.
