I am a sneakerhead episode 150 - @Solemate86
My name is Markus, I am 34 years old and live in the south of Germany together with my wife and my little daughter. I work in an advertising agency as a senior art director and I must say I love my job ;-)
I think I became interested in sneakers very early on. When I was about 10 years old, basketball sneakers were very trendy. My first sneaker I can remember was Allen Iverson's "The Answer" from Rebook 1997. Before that I wore skater shoes from Converse or DC.
When it comes to sneakers, I have definitely become a Nike Head. I can't really explain why, but I wanted to commit to one brand, and Nike has always been number one for me. I like Nike's collaborations with artists in the music industry, and most of all I love the Air Max 1, so I've been focusing on that model for about 3 years now. I especially like to hunt the old models from 2003 to 2010, the quality of the materials and the shape are outstanding.
I would say my current top three is the Air Max 1 Atmos Safari 2003, the Air Max 1 Polka Dot 2007 and of course the Air Max 1 Pink Pack 2007.
What do you plan on buying next?
That's a good question. To be honest, I don't have any plans at the moment, there is always the famous WTB list that I have saved in my head, but it is on hold for the time being because I bought an Air Max 1 Atmos Canadian Safari. Unfortunately, the condition of the shoe is not really good so I have to put a lot of love into the restoration. I think as soon as I finish this project, the hunt for new sneakers will continue. I am even quite sure about that ;-)
What are your expectations of the sneaker industry for the remainder of 2020?
I hope that many announced Air Max 1 retro releases will actually be released. For example the Powerwall Lemonade. I would be really happy to get another chance to get it in retail because the shoe has become too expensive for me in resale. Otherwise, I hope for new Air Max 1 releases, but please without the banana shape ;-)
If you could change one thing in the sneaker community, what would it be and why?
I would like people to stop using bots so that everyone gets a fair chance with limited releases.
