First of all, could you please introduce yourself?
Hi, my name is Steven. My Instagram name is @Sneakerastic. I’m 29, married, and have 2 beautiful daughters! I’m born and raised in the Netherlands and I’m a physiotherapist. Besides my passion for collecting sneakers, I love a great workout at the gym or running outside! I started to collect sneakers when I was 15 and have never stopped since.
Can you remember what your first 'real' sneaker purchase was?
I purchased my first own pair when I was 15 with my hard-earned pocket money. The Nike Air Max 1 ‘Football Friendly’. Before that my parents were sponsoring me a lot because I was ruining all my pairs of Nike Sb’s with skateboarding.
You seem to be collecting a lot of Nikes and in particular the Air Max 1. Why is that?
I have worn a lot of different sneakers and brands, but the AM1 is always the right fit for me. They feel comfy, suit almost every outfit and the different colourways make it fun and awesome to have. The excitement of hunting down that pair you have been searching for a couple of months is like an addiction. However, there will always be other amazing pairs waiting for me.
With the 35th anniversary of the Air Max 1 this year, is there anything you are excited about?
If the rumours are true, they’re bringing back the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Crepe Hemp’. I’m very excited about that pair, because of the awesome colourway and the sneaker shape is just on point. Besides this, I hope they will bring back the Nike By You Options for the AM1. I and many other collectors have been waiting for a long time for some good options, for example, the denims or the corduroy.
What was your favourite pickup of last year?
Last year I finally got my hands on the Nike Air Max 1 ‘Animal 1.0’ in collaboration with Atmos. Most of the pairs don’t come with the OG box, but this one did.
Do you already know what your next purchase will be?
This year I was thinking to double up my pair of AM1 ‘Elephants’ and I actually did last week! So that’s a great start to the year! My further aim will be one big expensive shoe like the Amsterdams, Cherrywoods or just a pair of Patta 5th Anniversary ‘Chlorophyll’.
What is your all-time favourite pair?
The Nike Air Max 1 ‘Elephant’ by Atmos & Nike Are is my favourite of all time! And they’re double in my collection! But the Nike Air Max 1 ‘BRS’ is coming second after the Elephants.
