WoodWood x Asics GT-2160
If you look at some of WW's designs, they design some well executed sneakers. On release day, these really slipped through the cracks following Earl's 2160, but there wasn't much marketing tbh & I feel like a lot of people have been going 🔙 since then. I'm glad I was able to pick these up bc they are even better in hand.
Materials: starting at the toe cap, it's a taupe leather that looks nice, but is more durable than soft. Moving back, there's a tan weave-like pattern that acts as the mesh to the upper. On the stripes, they have a tan base with a white inlay & a subtle purple border around the white stripes. That same purple is found on 2 of the lace loops & in the gel pods near the back.The best feature is the back heel bc it has their signature green back tab w/ W.W.®️ logo stitched on a dark yellow patch above a bluish-grey GEL logo. Below that is a brown leather patch that matches the color of the brown sock liner. They added more branding on the tongue w/ a grey 'WOODWOOD GT-2160' patch midway through. Lastly, they added a 🪸 hit midway thru the outsole. All of these random colors shouldn't work imo, but the placement & subtle hits made these flow together perfectly.
Comfort/Sizing: the 2160 comfort is similar to the Gel-Nimbus 9 & kayano 14 but not as soft as the Kayano 14. It has a squishy feel on foot but also has a feeling of firmness & stability as well. In terms of sizing, I got these in a size 8 & they honestly fit me pretty well.
Overall Opinion: like I mentioned earlier, I thoroughly enjoy WW's designs & these are in line with their design palette. The pops of 🟣 & 🟢 with a neutral base flows nicely & adds a nice contrast. Throw in the cream weave material on the sides & it speaks to how well the designer is able to mesh the colors & materials smoothly. Even their Mizuno & Salomon designs are nicely done if you check back 🤷🫣. If you skipped on these, I would give em a second thought tbh bc they definitely deserve more attention.
